Welcome to the web pages of Eynsham Morris

Eynsham Morris have a proud tradition stretching back to the nineteenth century and probably beyond. We have some of the most exciting and flamboyant dances in the morris tradition, and a dancing style to match. We try to live up to Cecil Sharp's description from 1908 (above).

From the menu bar on the left you can find out where we're dancing, read about our long history, look at pictures and videos, and learn a bit about the dances. You can also find out about our home town, Eynsham. Contact us to find out more, to invite us to dance for you, or to join us.

We are sorry to announce that Keith Green, the first Foreman of Eynsham Morris when we got back together again in 1979, died at the age of 72 on 15 January 2013 after a long and debilitating illness. Our condolences go to Tricia, Annie and Ian and all the family. Keith would light up any gathering with the lilt in his voice and the twinkle in his eye, and his repertoire of songs sung in his Oxfordshire accent as befits a true native and stalwart of Eynsham. Without him Eynsham Morris would not be here now. Thanks Keith.

Move over HQ!

Apologies to Dave and the guys at Quarry but we couldn' resist this from Linda Proud's 'Writing Historical Fiction' page, describing May Day at Aristotle Lane:

We had two Morris troupes this morning. Headington Quarry – staid, elderly and very dull – and Eynsham. Eynsham Morris rocks! Three squeeze boxes, two drums and a tambourine, and a troupe including four lads, they took us back beyond Cecil Sharpe to some genuinely boisterous peasant dancing

Eynsham Gods?!
Local artist Lorna Marrison has started a new series of morris dancer paintings on the theme "The Morris Angel and the Seven Deadly Sins". As she puts it in her blog, " The sins will be played by Armaleggan Morris who with their decorated faces will allow scope for depicting the sins and the angel will be  from the Eynsham Morris". Nuff said!
